GRA workers’ union holds 3rd Annual Delegate Conference, elects executives

The Ghana Revenue Authority Workers’ Union (GRAWU) held its third Annual Delegates Conference in Ho on June 1, 2023 to deliberate on championing the welfare of its members to enhance productivity.

The Congress also coincided with the launch of the Union’s 10th anniversary dubbed: “GRAWU @ 10: Achievement and Challenges in Management- Labour Relations.” During the congress, new national executives were elected to steer affairs of the Union.

Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Mr Bright Wireko Brobbey, during the conference, commended the GRAWU for its significant contributions towards development of the country.

He said the Union played a critical role in advocating the wellbeing of its members through constructive engagement with management – and that was laudable, as one principle of work of the International Labour Organisation is social dialogue.

The Minister said it was important for labour and management to have constructive dialogue and leverage key resolutions to propel growth.

Mr Dominic A. Nartey, National Chairman of GRAWU noted that the vision of the Union was to focus on the general well-being and better future of its members.

He said among the objectives of the Union is to establish a good working relation with management of the GRA to ensure high productivity, stressing that labour played a key role in helping management on strategies to widen tax net for national development.

Commissioner General of GRA, Dr Ammishaddal Owusu- Amoah in an address on his behalf, said efforts were underway to widen the tax net, ensure compliance, and generate the required revenue for the state.

He said the Authority’s core mandate was to mobilise revenue to advance the socio-economic development of the country and the Authority would roll out initiatives and measures.

The Commissioner General said several initiatives had already been rolled out including the Upfront VAT compliance strategy, Electronic VAT Invoicing system among other key initiatives to augment revenue collection.

There were solidarity messages from GRA Public Service Workers’ Association, Customs Division Staff Association, and the National Communications Authority Staff Association.

The newly elected National Executives of the Union are, National Chairman -Theophilus Ehun, 1st Vice Chairman – Patience Dawutey, 2nd Vice Chairman – Naomi Chartey, 3rd Vice Chairman – Abdul Salaam Commey, National Secretary – Margaret Boateng Nartey, Assistant National Secretary – Abdul Wahab, Financial Secretary – Barbara Agyare, National Treasurer – Joel Kaku Minlah, Women’s Organiser – Helen Ethel O. Tetteh, Welfare Officer – Clarissa Aggrey-Fynn Amissah, 1st Welfare Officer – Francis Kaku Cudjoe, 2nd Assistant Welfare Officer – Cosmos Leonard Edem and National Public Affairs Officer – Robert Benjamin Eshun.
